Founded in 1949, the present clubhouse was moved from Bury itself to a neighbouring village where a railway minded farmer kindly allowed access to a spare pig shed for a nominal rent! |

The layout was originally built to represent Great Eastern train action in East Anglia during the 1950’s. The 00 30ft x 20ft layout with two main terminuses and a branch station based on Felixstowe would work to a sequence timetable. This sequence table could take many weeks to complete through a heavily laden cigarette smoke atmosphere. But as years have passed along with members the club has tried to bring itself into the present century by much change. Gone has the smoke not only for health reasons but fire safety. The large end to end layout has also been transformed into a simple figure of eight design. This now allows members to bring their own stock along for a run. But some of the original buildings have been retained along with the Abbotsford terminus, which was based on the Bury St Edmunds Station with its two fine lift towers; these being on separate buildings in reality. |

Much praise must go to the late Norman Willis who was at the birth of the club and brought along considerable talent. Although he was a very staunch GWR man having been born in Swindon he also had much interest in the G.E. Company. He’s talents are still much in evidence at the club today in he’s buildings, scenery and detailed loco and rolling stock; this work is still an inspiration to us all. |

From its meeting night of a Thursday the club now meets also on a Tuesday as well. The Tuesday night meet was instigated to complete the 00 layout but has now proved more popular for those that want to do modeling. Thursday is more a bring your loco along and have a natter night! |

To try and cater for all members’ interests the club is currently building an N gauge layout 25ft x2.5ft for exhibition use. Members will be able to run their own stock. The period will vary depending on the stock that is run. |
